Harvest of Hope is a non-profit organization that provides assistance to migrant farmworkers. Check out their site here. American Scene Update This summer I started a project called American Scene that was to come out in four parts over the course of the summer. I released parts 1-3 to my mailing list, but the fourth part never came out. I'm now recording part 4 (4 new tracks) and remixing and remastering parts 1-3. What that amounts to is a 12 track album once it's all done. I wanted to keep some new music out there while I'm working on some stuff for the next *official* album. But what sets D.P. (ne´ Daniel Perez) apart from other artists in his category is the sheer imagery he paints with his lyrics. He sings about everything from wanting to spend a day with a loved one to being poor and just trying to have a good time. New Mini-Documentary: 3 Days on the Road with The Supervillains I recently went on tour with The Supervillains, to Largo, New Smyrna and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Took the camera along and got some footage. Great times, rocked some awesome shows, met some great people, Article: Bar Tab Blues: The Emergence of D.P. in Gainesville Hip-Hop Danny Perez is trying to create the soundtrack to American nightlife. He finds poetry in the half-empty drinks left on bars at the end of the night, the hopes of finding a connection to a scene, the conversations clouded with loose inhibitions and cigarette smoke and the desolation of last call. Much like Bruce Springsteen painted the pictures of the vibrant, consuming life on the New Jersey boardwalk in the mid-1970s, Perez is telling stories of the modern youth through the music of the modern youth: Hip-hop. If it sounds ambitious, that’s because it is, and Perez would be the first to tell you he’s never wanted to be bound by the conventions and stereotypes of a genre that has surrendered songwriting to major label hit factories. He wants to bring the charisma and the artistry back to hip-hop, and if it takes long, drunken nights in Gainesville bars to get there, consider it liquid fuel for thought. I recently went on the road for the weekend, playing at the Gainesville in the Park music festival at the Spirit of the Suwannee music park in Live Oak, FL. American Scene Part 3 has been released to everyoneon the mailing list! American Scene is a 4-part EP series that is being released this summer to everyone on the mailing list. If you're not on the mailing list, unfortunately you won't get the free music. The rapper and songwriter just released a new album, Bar Tab Blues, and a single, "Hollow, " and he took some time out to talk to INsite about his creative process, stereotypes and Jerry Lee Lewis. The Gainesville Sun Reviews 'Bar Tab Blues' Bar Tab Blues, the newest release from Gainesville artist D.P. (Danny Perez) is a step beyond hip-hop. The album has the sides of hip-hop that we all love - the beat, the hook, the words. But Bar Tab Blues takes those elements and overlays them with choruses that could easily fit into any pop or indie rock song, something that can be attributed to Perez's training in classical piano.
